Local knowledge to help make your stay in Robin Hood Country extra special
Walks & Cycle Rides around Nottinghamshire, Clumber and Sherwood Forest Nottinghamshire has a reputation as one of the best walking and cycling regions in the country. The area is relatively unpopulated with small villages and towns nestled into gentle undulating farmland and heath land with Sherwood Forest and Clumber Park at it's heart.
Walk 1: South Leverton & Treswell South Leverton lies to the north of the county where the escarpment gives way to the River Trent, the population is sparse and tourists are rare. This walk crosses arable farmland using some medieval tracks between the villages with nature reserves and oil pumps!!. The village of South Leverton, mentioned in the Doomsday book, has a grand Norman church and many traditional Nottinghamshire buildings.>>>
Walk 2: Sherwood Forest A walk around Sherwood Forest needs little introduction, suffice to say that this walk includes the Great Oak but also some other, more unusual sites. A classic walk for a great day out.>>>
Walk 3: Rufford Abbey
Walk 4: Hayton and the Chesterfield Canal Hayton lies north of Retford tucked behind the escarpment with the Chesterfield Canal passing through this picturesque village. This walk follows a stretch of canal before crossing this quaint village and heading up the hillside to a highpoint at a trig point, through such lanes as Lovers Walk, Hangingside Lane and Goit Lane. The walk starts and ends at a public house that has a reputation for real ales and food, including its famed Sunday Roasts.>>>
