Notes from meetring held 26th September 2006 Apologies
received from. Chris Daniels, Joan Brown, June Ibbotson, Janet
Carr,
Janet Easom, Pam. Barnsdale. There
were 11 attendees at the meeting. Matters
arising. Chris
Daniels had asked that the following items be raised.
From
discussions among those present it would appear that the
proposals were for a 10% tax on every bed let by any
establishment offering accommodation. It does not appear to have
proceeded beyond the proposal stage. We will keep you informed
if more information is gleaned. Helen
Sissons of Experience Nottinghamshire gave a comprehensive
update on their current and planned activities. A great deal of
emphasis is being placed on the development of the Robin Hood
theme over the next two years. Current activities are planned to
coincide with the television series that is imminent. Helen
gave much more information than can be reported verbatim in this
summary. Please visit the E.N. web site for full details. Barry
Bowles reported that he had recently been interviewed on Trax FM
radio where he was able to talk about the Living Legends
programme and the debate regarding the true origins of Robin
Hood. Further information can be found on the Bassetlaw web
site. Sandra
Withington reported that the Bassetlaw Guide will be reprinted
and should be available by January 2007. There will also be an
update of the Bassetlaw web site. Robin
Hood airport is opening up new destinations and is concentrating
on developing business routes. Wizz Air is flying to Poland with
a target of 6 flights per week. In about 11 weeks flights will
commence to Islamabad and in May 2007 flights to Toronto are
scheduled with a target fare of £75.00 + taxes. A(
non manned) visitor point is expected to be operational at the
airport by January 2007. It has been funded by Experience
Nottinghamshire. Three
free courses have been organised by Sandra and are on offer to
S&DTG members. The
subjects are: - Basic Food Hygiene, Marketing and a visit to see
the operational side of Robin Hood Airport.
The dates are the 7th, 8th & 9th
November and will run from 11.00a.m. until 6.00p.m. Please
contact Sandra a.s.a.p.to book a place on any of the sessions. A
discussion was held on the future of the meetings, venues, date
and time of meetings. It
was generally agreed that, although attendances at meetings were
not high (for many reasons that have been debated before) it was
worth continuing. The regular attendees felt that there is a
benefit from regular contact. The Chairman expressed his concern
that the representatives from Experience Nottinghamshire, Barry
Bowles and Sandra Withington all gave up their own time to
address a small but very appreciative audience. All three
expressed their willingness to continue to attend, for which we
are very grateful. It
was agreed that the meetings should continue to be held on the 4th
Tuesday of alternate months. We will try to find an alternative
venue that is more central for the next meeting. If this does
not generate an increased attendance we will revert to the
Chequers for subsequent meetings. There
was some discussion on how to promote the Group to tourism
related businesses in North Nottinghamshire that may not be
aware of our existence. Sandra offered to investigate whether
there were any business listings that might identify potential
new members. The
next meeting of the Group is scheduled for Tuesday 28th.
November. Venue T.B.A. Geoff.
Ruffell Chairman.
